Question: I get lots of yellow spots on my neck after shaving, do you have any idea what could be causing this and what I could use to cure it?
Max, Lancaster

Hi Max, the breakouts you're experiencing on your neck are probably due to one, or a combination, of the following factors.

1. Residual bacteria left on the area after shaving
2. The growth of hair underneath the surface level of the skin (ingrown hairs)
3. Raw skin irritated by tight clothing after shaving

Tackling such an issue is very straight forward. First of all, ensure that the products you use to shave are adequate. Investing in good products will encourage positive results. Next, after-shaving splash the face and neck with cold water - as cold as you can bare it. This will close the pores and soothe the area.

Use an astringent or ingrown hair treatment to destroy bacteria and prevent hairs from getting trapped under the skin. Hairs which get trapped beneath the surface level can become infected, thus leaving a white spot.

If you wear a shirt and tie, try shaving before bed rather than in the morning. This will offer the skin chance to repair itself before you don your shirt collar.
