Carthusia Uomo - A True Gent.
Carthusia is one of the most admired fragrance houses in the world. With history reaching back over 200 years, the Carthusia collection is steeped in heritage and bursting full of fragrance expertise.
Carthusia Uomo is the leading male scent from the collection, so to give you the low-down and let you know a little bit more about it, we've enlisted the help of our fragrance afficiando, Graham Matthews and asked him to explain what it's all about.
Well firstly, Carthusia Uomo is an Eau de Parfum. Eau de Parfum is commonly associated with female fragrances but the title isn't an indication of the sex that the scent is best suited to, more an indication as to the concentration of the aroma. Eau de Parfum is the second most strongest fragrance category with Parfum being the first. Eau de Parfum is a high concentration of the fragrance oil diluted into a carrier base that makes it easy to apply topically onto the skin.
Carthusia Uomo is a strong, masculine scent that was developed mistakenly by the Carthusian Monks back in the 1800's. The scent was discovered after preparing a flower arrangement for a royal visit. The flowers were immersed in water to keep them fresh and alive, and when the arrangement was no longer required, the monks naturally disposed of it. Whilst doing so, the monks discovered that the water in which the flowers had sat had a strong, and most pleasant aroma. Filled with excitement a intrigue, the monks layed out the flowers and tried to identify which elements of the flower display were responsible for creating the scent.
Freesia, Jasmine, Geranium and Patchouli were all present so the monks knew that if they were to recreate this aroma, these would become their staple ingredients.
The monks worked tirelessly to recreate the scent that they had experienced and added various elements to enhance the effect on the nose. Citrus, Sandalwood, Amber and Musk were all blended into the mix and became an integral part of the Carthusia Uomo Old Factory Pyramid.
Carthusia Uomo, as we know it today, is still produced by hand in Capri, albeit not by Carthusia Monks, and uses the same processes and approach to developing the scent as was used back in the early days.
Often branded 'The True Gent' Carthusia Uomo is sophistacted, deep and hugely seductive. Opening notes of Bergamot, Lemon and Green Leaves settle into a floral, woody heart that is strong and long-lasting.
