Now, this may sound like a fairly trivial issue to write about, but there really is an art to using your face scrub correctly in order to get the best out of it. Firstly, your face scrub should be used around 2-3 times per week, and preferably prior to shaving. The reason we use a face scrub before shaving is to lift the hairs from the surface of the face, this maximises their exposure to the blade making your shave close and pain-free. The second reason we scrub before shaving is to release any trapped (ingrown) hairs. Your face scrub will gently remove dead skin cells, revealing the hairs.
So how do we use a face scrub properly?
It is not my intention to teach grandma to suck eggs here, I simply want to share some helpful tips with you to enhance your face scrubs' performance.
- Use your scrub before shaving - as mentioned above.
- Use a pea-sized amount on damp skin - warm the scrub between your finger tips, avoiding the palms.
- To apply to the face, hold your hands in-front of your face, palms towards you.
- Rest your thumbs underneath your jaw bones.
- Keeping your thumbs in position, gently massage the scrub onto the face using your fingertips in circular motions.
- Once your face is thoroughly 'scrubbed,' remove your thumbs from under the jaw-line and use both hands to massage your face scrub into the area which you are about to shave.
- Rinse.
