The Aftershave Edit

Aftershave, often mistaken for eau de toilette or eau de parfum, is a post-shave splash that helps to protect newly exposed skin from the elements and prevent razor-rash. It usually comes with a pleasant scent and that's why lots of people mistake 'aftershave' for fragrance.

When it comes to selecting an aftershave formula you need to consider the following:
Does it contain alcohol? Not always necessary but it does help to protect against shave rash and ingrown hairs. It also helps to clean the skin after shaving.
Does it contain a moisturising ingredient? Most aftershaves do, but if your chosen one doesn't, just apply a bit of after shave once it has dried.
Does it leave my skin smelling fresh? Not always essential but it is a nice touch, hey!

We handpicked our 5 favourite, and most popular, aftershaves for men. Some are splashes, some are creams and some balms, but fundamentally they all do the same thing - leave the skin soothed and comforted after shaving.

1. The Cool Fix by Shave Works / Best for sensitive skin.

This is a lightweight gel / cream that instantly cools the skin on application. It does sting a little but the pain is definitely worth the gain. The face and neck are left rash-free and nourished.

2. Lucky Tiger Bay Rum Aftershave / Best value for money.

This is great value for money and smells über cool.

 3. Baxter of California After Shave Balm / Best for the daily shaver.

This is easy to apply and it doesn't really sting. The skin is left protected from shave rash and feels nourished. We particularly like the consistency of this after shave balm; it's like the perfect combination of a gel and a cream so it feels lovely on the skin.

4. Anthony Logistics Ingrown Hair Treatment / Best for those with ingrown hairs.

This is the powerful of out top 5 and works super hard to keep your face in perfect order after your shave. Packed with astringent properties, Anthony Logistics Ingrown Hair Treatment ensures the skin is protected from razor rash and any contributing factors that cause ingrown hairs are removed.

5. Carsons Apothecary Arabian Pomegranate Universal Facial Hair ConditionerBest for scent and moisturising properties.

This is the perfect all-rounder. It can be used as a beard oil, a shave oil and a post-shave soother. We were particularly drawn to the ingredients list as it contains Rosehip Oil. Rosehip Oil has one of the smallest molecular structures of common skin care oils so it sinks into the skin really quickly and doesn't leave much of a residue. Used after shaving the skin is left intensely nourished and completely protected against adversities.
