Dr Dennis Gross Extra Strength Alpha Beta Peel

Dr Dennis Gross is best know for his patented 2-step daily face peels, and recently we’ve seen eruption in popularity for these complexion refiners. Extra Strength is the strongest peel in the range (Universal and Ultra Gentle are also available) using a combination of acids to break-down the bond between dead skin cells to reveal a more refined skin tone.

Although highly indicative of their shedding action, ‘Peel’ may be a little over-zealous a word to use to describe what they actually do, so we’ve enlisted the help of our resident skincare expert Graham to shine some light on the what, when, how and why of Dr Dennis Gross’ resurfacing, exfoliating wipes. Here’s what he had to say.

Exfoliating the skin is the fastest way to install refine your skin tone, but not with a scrub. Scrubs are great before shaving and as a tri-weekly maintenance option, but if you’re looking for something a little more gentle on the skin with powerful performance, Alpha Beta Peels are right up your street. I’ve been using the Peels since we first introduced Dr Dennis Gross to TGC (almost 5 years ago) and now I wouldn’t be without them. I started with the Alpha Beta Universal Peel, formerly Original Daily Peel, and after a couple of months I made the transition to the Extra Strength version. It’s not so much about the peeling action for me, it’s more about preparing my face for the ingredients found in my topical solutions, and giving the technology contained within them the best possible access to the skin. Also, if you’ve got a big event coming up, use the Peels for 7 days before it to make sure you’re looking dandy.

How do you use Dr Dennis Gross’ Daily Peels?

If your skin is highly sensitive, go with the Ultra Gentle Peel, however if your skin is fairly low maintenance or you have concerns about dull, devitalised skin, opt for Extra Strength.

Step 1 is the side of the treatment responsible for removing the dull and dead skin cells.

1.Make sure you wash your face thoroughly before use otherwise the acids will have to dig through the dirt and oil on the skin before they start to work.
2.Take step 1 out of the packet and smear it across the face until the pads feels almost dry. What’s happening on your face now is Glycolic Acid is releasing dead skin from the face and Salicylic Acid is removing congestion and any blockages within the pores.

Step 2 stops the peeling action by rendering the acids neutral

1. After a a couple of minutes, take step 2 out of the packet and work it across the face until it feels dry. It's vital that you carry out both steps as the second step stops the peeling action by neutralising the acids, using water alone to rinse the face will not stop the peeling.
2. Post-use avoid applying products which contain alcohol and always use a moisturiser with an SPF.

Used daily as part of your skincare regime, you’ll gradually start to notice an improvement in the tone of the skin, the improvement doesn’t appear overnight, you’ll need to use the Alpha Beta Peels daily to gradually buff the skin into a brighter, more radiant condition.

Who are the Peels best suited to?

If your skin reddens when you use a face scrub, Alpha Beta Peels will make sure your skin is exfoliated without the need for coarse ingredients.
Those with enlarged pores will benefit from the lifting action of Salicylic Acid, noticing a reduction in blackheads.
If your skin looks dull and lacking vitality the Peels will refine it and lift the surface gloom to boost the complexion.
Those with excessively oily/shiny skin will benefit from a mattified complexion whilst adding moisture with glycerin.
